Focus Interactive releases Mars Wars Logs trailer

Feel the sunshine in this trailer featuring lots of walking, serious faces, and absolutely no sign of dubstep. Gotta watch now.

Any developer that releases a trailer devoid of dubstep automatically gets a high approval rating in my book. A developer that releases a trailer with sensational noir jazz tunes in successful combination with the cinematics gets triple points.

Okay, so the cinematics weren’t that great, but the music is so good! It makes the passing frames look so much better. Double points, then.

This is Mars Wars Logs, a cyberpunk universe RPG set on Mars. The whole setting is based on fulfilling the “what-if?” question that scientists have been asking for years. People are living on the planet and there’s water. However, after a cataclysm that has decreased its presence, the guilds controlling the slum-cities decided to control the resource making people very angry and desperate.

So who’s that guy with the grim face? That’s Roy “Temperance”. He’s the hero of the game. In this trailer, he’s returned to his hometown and found that he’s been labeled a renegade by civilians controlled by Technomancers who have powers that manipulate.

The game plans to highlight the choices you have to make and it seems like you can even choose to side with the presumed bad guys. So, maybe Roy isn’t the hero. Does that face look heroic to you? The setting is creative enough to go in a lot of directions, but as of now, I’m not entirely sure it’s moving past the typical ‘poor people are hurting, and government is controlling’ themes. It seems intriguing even if it only falls into my “we’ll see what happens” bin.

The game is set for release Spring 2013 for Xbox Live, PSN and PC.

And in case you liked the song as much as me, here’s a treat:
