Final Fantasy XIV server merge ‘reassessed’ after negative feedback

Squeenix’s plan to lower the number of Final Fantasy XIV servers didn’t please fans – so the company has announced it will ‘reassess’ the situation before taking any further steps.

Square Enix had planned to merge some Final Fantasy XIV servers, but the community didn’t respond so well. As such, they’ve agreed to hold off while they ‘reassess’ the situation.

Eight servers for the much-maligned MMO were set to be shut down in March – which would have lowered the total number of servers to ten.

But the Lodestone Final Fantasy XIV blog today announced that the planned move would not go ahead as planned.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for the wealth of feedback you have provided us with following the announcement made on February 9, 2012 (Thursday), regarding the World merge and character transfers,” read the statement.

“In order to ensure that the most desirable and effective outcome is achieved, we will be reassessing the method of the merger process.”

New details are set to be made public in due course.

Final Fantasy XIV was widely regarded as a bit of a failure and, some time after launch, an entirely new production team was brought in to take the reigns.

Our original Final Fantasy XIV review scored the game 5 out of 10, describing a game that showed promise but appeared unfinished. We’ll be returning for a re-review at a later date.
