Fable MMO in the works at Lionhead?
Jamie Donnelly December 14, 2011 - 3:03 pmLionhead Studios has posted a job advert calling for somebody who has experience in working on MMO games – could the studio be working on a Fable MMO?
If a recent job advertisement is to be believed, Lionhead Studios is working on a massively multiplayer online game. At least, you hope they are, otherwise they’re probably wasting their time in hiring an MMO expert. What will the actual game be? Common sense and logic points towards an MMORPG taking place in the Fable universe, but that’s of course just speculation for now.
The job advert on Microsoft‘s careers website states that “the ideal candidate is someone who enjoys playing MMO games and has significant experience with the workings of a massive online multiplayer environment.”
It also says that some essential experience will be required, including a “passion for playing MMO games” and “a minimum of 1 shipped MMO title as a Network Programmer”. Desirable experience included “Xbox 360 / Xbox Live experience” and “Unreal Engine experience”. The upcoming Fable kinect title, Fable : The Journey, is being built using the Unreal Engine, and this adds further weight to the idea of a Fable MMO.
If the speculation turns out true, Lionhead won’t be the first studio to take a single-player RPG down the MMO route, with Square Enix previously having botched the release of Final Fantasy XIV. That game is slowly being fixed, with details of patch 1.2 recently being released.
