Massively Multiplayer Sci Fi title EVE Online is set to get a rather radical expansion.
Well I say expansion, but the newly unveiled Dust 514 is actually a separate game entirely, being released on consoles. The game is set in the same universe however, and is part first person shooter and part real time strategy game.
The interesting thing is that as the multiplayer battles play out on the consoles, the faction’s that are winning gain more territory in the main EVE Online game, meaning that by getting your trigger finger on in Dust 514 can actually improve your game in EVE.
Its certainly ambitious, and if it works could provide a whole new revenue stream to MMO’s. No release date was give for Dust 514, but more details will be unveiled at developer CCP’s fan event in October.
