The games industry is full of predictions of high sales competition between systems The following is no different. Yes there is an analyst involved and no it’s not Michael Pachter. (I know you’re shocked right?)
On this occassion it’s time for Anita Frazier to have her spot in the limelight as she predicts that Nintendo DS sales figures will soon overtake the numbers recorded for the Playstation 2, which is sadly no longer tracked by NPD.
Frazier has predicted that the PS2′s sales will be beaten in the latter half of this year, which would make the Nintendo DS the highest selling video-game system of all time.
It should be noted that there are several variants of the DS, (As you probably know.) and NPD numbers place these different DS models within the same category.
Is this fair on the PS2? Sure the PS2 had a couple of slightly altered versions of itself sold but if someone is fed up with their 1st generation DS they have a lot more choice should they be looking to upgrade. Nonetheless, it looks as though NPD have crowned Nintendo the king over Sony.
Don’t worry PS2, the world still loves you, and congratulates you on your deserved retirement.
