With its release quickly approaching, Codemasters have released a game play trailer so that we can learn how Dizzy Prince of the Yolk Folk is going to hold out on mobile devices.

Many reading this will be too young to remember Dizzy and I certainly am too young, but Dizzy has got a level of cult status for being one of the most popular games that was ever rolled out on the ZX Spectrum, back in the days when games came on tapes. Thankfully, Codemasters and DNA Interactive have been busy updating the look of the Prince of the Yolk Folk and how he handles:

Originally, the Dizzy series was ported to a lot of the older systems such as Amiga, Commodore 64 and Amstrad, with tailored adventures for systems such as the NES and Mega Drive and others. Last year, Paul Blewitt wrote a retrospective on the Dizzy franchise for BeefJack. The new incarnation is due for release on Android and iOS on 9th December and maintains the kind of puzzle solving that made the originals so lovable.

In 1987ish, I was in Atari World in Manchester purchasing a copy of Atlantis’ Pothole Pete for my Atari 800XL, when who should walk in? One of the Oliver twins (i forget which). I recognised him from pictures in C&VG and asked him for his autograph (I was ten, and starstruck). He signed my copy of Pothole Pete despite having nothing whatsoever to do with that game. I went in the following week and bought a Dizzy game, (treasure island? not sure), and told the guy behind the counter to keep it there and get it signed for me should the Oliver twin return. That was the last I saw of the game.
All true – although perhaps the game wasn’t Pothole Pete.
