Disney’s Junction Point studios shutting down
Michael Johnson January 29, 2013 - 5:00 pmCreators of the Epic Mickey games Junction Point Studios, headed by Warren Spector are being closed by Disney.
After speculation yesterday, Gamasutra are reporting that Disney have released a statement saying “It was with much sadness that we informed our teams today of changes to our Games organization, which include the closure of Junction Point Studios. These changes are part of our ongoing effort to address the fast-evolving gaming platforms and marketplace and to align resources against our key priorities. We’re extremely grateful to Warren Spector and the Junction Point team for their creative contributions to Disney with Disney Epic Mickey and Disney Epic Mickey 2.”
It’s always sad to see a studio shut down, especially one that boasts an industry legend like Warren Spector (who created Deus Ex at the ill-fated Ion Storm) as its founder. We wish all the best to those who have lost their jobs as a result of this.
Epic Mickey 2 released last November and didn’t receive particularly flattering reviews, you can check out BeefJacks take on the game here. Lets hope Mr Spector and the other Junction Point employees are able to land on their feet and return to game development as quickly as possible.
