Diablo III is not an eSports game, says Blizzard
Paul Yan November 27, 2012 - 10:56 amNews: Blizzard’s CEO Mike Morhaime said that Diablo III was not created as a competitive eSports title, and as such, it won’t be turned into one.

Some games like Blizzard’s Starcraft were designed for the competitive eSports scene, but not all games were built for it. Diablo III, for example, wasn’t, according to Blizzard’s CEO Mike Morhaime.
Segment Next reports that in a press conference during last weekend’s Battle.net World Championship, Morhaime said that “Diablo 3 was never really designed to be an eSport, and not every game necessarily needs to be an eSport.” As such, there are no plans to make Diablo III one, even though it’s getting a patch that will add full PvP support.
Morhaime goes on to explain the reason Starcraft II is an eSports title is because the original Starcraft was designed for it. As for World of Warcraft, it initially wasn’t created for competitive play, but over time, it naturally evolved into it one by “adapting a different structure,” notes Segment Next.
Lately, it seems that eSports has been gaining more support and recognition as Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Medal of Honor: Warfighter implemented eSports-focused features.
