Crysis running in Flash? Crytek are “investigating” browser possibilities

Hot on the heels of the announcement that Epic’s Unreal Engine 3 supports Adobe Flash, Crysis creators Crytek have revealed they are “investigating” the possibilities for their CryEngine to run on browsers and smartphones as well, and are close to revealing a “truly cross-platform solution.”

The world of technology just doesn’t stop moving – four years ago you would never have dreamt of the possibility of Crysis – the ultimate expression of high-end PC graphics – running in Adobe’s Flash. Mind you, you wouldn’t have laid money on it appearing on console either – and look what happened there.

But it is is a possibility Crytek are investigating, they’ve revealed to Edge. Following Epic‘s demonstration of Unreal Tournament III running on Flash earlier this week at Adobe Max 11 in Los Angeles, Carl Jones, director of global business development for CryEngine, admits they have been thinking along the same lines.

“It is an interesting approach we’ve been investigating as well,” Jones said. “We’re developing a unifying technology to create high quality social and gaming experiences on all platforms including browser, smartphones, tablets, etc.”

“We hope to be able to tell you more about it soon when we present our truly cross-platform solution.”

Crytek are currently developing a free-to-play PC shooter for the Asian market titled Warface, which would appear to be the perfect vehicle to launch a browser-based version of CryEngine.
