Crysis 2, Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3 – 2011′s most pirated games

Crysis 2 was the most pirated game of 2011, it has been revealed, with Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 in second and third place.

Crysis 2 (pictured) was pirated more times than any other game in 2011, TorrentFreak has revealed. Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 were the second and third most popular titles for nasty pirates last year.

More than 4 million illegal downloads were tracked for Crysis 2, with 3,650,000 and 3,510,000 for Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 respectively.

Meanwhile, Edge has published an editorial that quite bluntly attempts to explain to people why those who ‘defend pirates’ are wrong – though I’d contest some of its assertions. The article repeatedly claims that there is ‘no evidence’ to support those who say piracy doesn’t – say – equate to a lost sale. But as far as I know, there’s no evidence in the other direction either.

Also: “If you then complain against measures taken by the developer to stop that kind of thing, you are defending those pirates. Blunt, but true.”

Um, not quite. Piracy might be wrong, but if CD Projekt had started nuking people’s houses as a result, I might have something to say about that. Y’know?
