Elevators in Mass Effect quickly became a punch line that required no setup. It wasn’t only because it was one of the few things that could be criticized about the game. Their obvious use as loading masks barely kept players more immersed in the game than a loading screen would have.
The development staff has made fixing this issue a major goal for Mass Effect 2. At a recent panel at Comic-Con, Casey Hudson, the Executive Producer of the Mass Effect franchise, bragged about just how improved they were. “We now have the fastest elevators in the industry,” he proclaimed when answering a question about the offending devices.
With that, as well as the fact that Commander Shepard will no longer be awkwardly staring at everyone he talks to, what will we have to complain about in Mass Effect 2?

Great article!!
Didn’t they say that last year though? We’ve known since pretty much the first ME2 announcement that the elevators would be fixed.

“it was one of the few things that could be criticized about the game.” How about all the bugs that cause the game to be called Mass Defect? It is a great game, but I would have liked the game to have been fixed, which it never has been.
