Cliff hopes Unreal Engine 4 graphics are so good people claim they’re faked
Simon Williams June 8, 2012 - 1:57 pmNews: Epic’s Cliff Bleszinski is hoping that a next generation Unreal Engine 4 game will look so good that some people just won’t believe the graphics are genuine.
Cliff Bleszinski of Epic Games has been discussing what he hopes can be achieved visually from a combination of their upcoming Unreal Engine 4 and the next generation of console hardware.
“I’m hoping that when gamers get a first glimpse at a next generation Unreal Engine 4 title that they’ll see something that looks darn near if not [actually] rendered,” Epic’s design director said. “I’m hoping that there will be debates online with people claiming that footage from the game was faked.”
“That was actually the target goal for the current generation of consoles, and as we’ve seen with a lot of pre-rendered graphics i.e. a Blizzard cinematic, you’re like ‘Well actually consoles can’t quite render that yet’. We’re hoping to get right to that point.”
“Even in the current console generation of the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, the best looking titles.. you can still look at them and they kind of have this ‘gamey’ look to them, maybe a little pixel shimmer here and there, or the lighting doesn’t look right to you because we as humans know what good lighting looks like even if we can’t explain it,” he told GI in a video interview.
“I’m hoping with Unreal Engine 4 and whatever the next generation ends up being – depending on the spec – that we’ll get to the point where everything just looks right and looks real.”
Until then, Epic are keep in themselves busy with their latest project, as you find out with all the Gears of War: Judgment news here at BeefJack.
