Firaxis have announced an expansion to Civilization V, Gods & Kings.

Civilization V is set to be expanded with a Gods & Kings. As well as bringing in a huge amount of new content there will also be (as the title suggests) the addition of religion.
You’ll be able to create your own religion, or simply work with real world ones. Firaxis don’t go too deeply into how this will play but it will involve ‘faith points’. Yeah, vague.
What else is being added?
- 27 new units – imcluding melee naval vessels
- 13 new buildings
- 9 new wonders
- 9 new playable civilizations: among them are Netherlands (William I, Prince of Orange), the Celts (Boudicca), and the Mayans (Pacal the Great).
- A reworked combat system. The AI will now create a balanced army rather than simply tanking you.
- Enhanced diplomacy. You can build embassies in your enemy’s territory.
- Improvements to spies.
- New city-states. Your very own Vatican City.
- 3 new scenarios: the fall of Rome, medieval era, and a Victorian science-fiction setting.
The expansion is set for a late Spring release. As more details come to light you’ll be able to read it here.
