CD Projekt announces new RPG based on Cyberpunk 2020
Joannes Truyens May 30, 2012 - 5:28 pmNews: CD Projekt of The Witcher fame have announced a new AAA RPG based on the pen & paper RPG Cyberpunk 2020.

CD Projekt have already teased the fact that they’re working on a non-fantasy RPG with several job listings and a teaser image depicting a cyberpunk punk. In a live press conference being broadcast right now, they’ve officially announced this new project under the working title of Cyberpunk. It’s based on Cyberpunk 2020, a pen & paper RPG from Mike Pondsmith and they’ve already been working on it for a few years.
The game looks set to be a “mature RPG for mature audiences”. It will feature a rich and detailed world with ultramodern technology that has also resulted in a decadent society. Players can build a unique character from several classes, ranging from mercenaries to hackers. There are cybernetic implants for upgrades and deadly weapons for the shooting of bullets and maybe rays. As with The Witcher series, players will “face morally ambiguous choices, their actions influencing events in the world at large and the fate of the individuals they encounter.”
Pondsmith is closely involved with the game’s development. “For over two decades, I’ve been proud to say that Cyberpunk’s been the gold standard of what it means to be a true cyberpunk game. And it’s been a huge success for me and our many fans, with over 5 million players worldwide. But over all that time we haven’t found the right team to bring our cyberpunk world to full digital life – until now. CD Projekt Red is the team we’ve been hoping for,” he says.
No word yet on when the title will launch or what platforms it will be available on. All we know is that we won’t be seeing it at this year’s E3.

God in Heaven, an official Cyberpunk adaptation by CD Projekt? Awesome!
That said, if it is an adaptation I hope it’s based on the classic 2020 edition rather than the not-totally-successful v.3.
