News: CD Projekt RED have officially announced Cyberpunk 2077, a sandbox cyberpunk RPG being made by Cyberpunk 2020 creator Mike Pondsmith.

The Witcher series creator CD Projekt RED have officially announced their next game entitled Cyberpunk 2077. [Update: The game was revealed earlier this year, but has now been given an official name.]

Like the title suggests, the game is an open-world cyberpunk RPG that takes place in the year 2077. Being created by Cyberpunk 2020 creator Mike Pondsmith, the game is set in a “dark future” where advanced technology has become both the “salvation and the curse of humanity,” reads the press release.

Players will explore a metropolis called Night City that includes places from Cyberpunk 2020 like Afterlife, Forlorn Hope, and a “combat zone taken over by gangs.” The game will also have a “multi-thread, nonlinear story designed for mature players,” and there will be “guns, rifles, implants and dozens of gadgets” to use.

The mechanics are said to be inspired by Cyberpunk 2020, and it’s being promised that the game will be “true to the essence of the cyberpunk genre.”
