The way I see it when those of us who grew up with the likes of Mario or Sonic start hitting our early thirties we’ll stop seeing headlines like this. However, for now guess there’s not much we can do, aside from just all move to Japan. Still those unable to move to Japan, or more precisely those based in Brazil look set to be pretty much screwed over all together.

Senator Valdir Raupp is the man in question this time, who is proposing a bill which will see the end of all violent video games ever hitting Brazil.

…curb the manufacture, distribution, importation, distribution, trading and custody, storage, the video games that affect the customs, traditions of the people, their worship, creeds, religions and symbols.

Therefore, we seek to protect the principle of equality – for many the greatest of constitutional principles – with the characterization of such discriminatory conduct as a crime by making provision in the law.

Protect the principle of equality? What about freedom of choice? No don’t suppose that matters anymore. Anyone found violating this law, if passed, can face up to three years inside, makes you wonder what’s next.

  1. Wow, would be a shame if this goes through. They only just got the PS2!
