Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition Dares Critics to Call Foul

The “Game of the Year” pack has long been a way for producers to re-release a game and milk it for everything it has got.  Unfortunately, there is no authoritative body to definitively bestow the Game of the Year title on one game, so we are left with a situation where several games, equally deserving of the title, release “Game of the Year” editions.  But few are as undeserving as Gearbox’s Borderlands, which is rumored to be releasing a Game of the Year edition.

Most 2009 Game of the Year awards went to Uncharted 2, a few went to Modern Warfare 2, some others went to Batman: Arkham Asylum and a few rogue publications gave awards to Dragon Age and Demon’s Souls, but not a one gave Boderlands a Game of the Year Award.  This, apparently, is not stopping 2K Games from releasing a game of the year edition for their loot lusting 1st person shooter.

CVG is reporting a Borderlands: Game of the Year Strategy Guide was put up for sale on Gamespot’s website for release on September 7th. Since the story broke the ad has been taken down, but it would not be surprising if a re-release of the game was in the works.

Even though it is wholly undeserving of the game of the year title, a re-release of Borderlands would be worthwhile if it was packed in with the game’s DLC, Secret Armory of General Knox, Max Moxxi’s Underdome Riot and The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned.
