Boom-Boom, Plagarise The Room: ‘Splosion Man Ripped Off By Capcom

This ain’t our first time when it comes to borderline plagarism, hell, Zynga CEO Mark Pinkus allegedly made his views very clear on just how far they should go (hint: all the way to the bank) with other studios’ material, but Capcom’s recent App, MaXplosion Man really is taking the Cordite on this one.

Twisted Pixel’s XLBA release back in July of 2009 was an acclaimed success for the indie developer, garnering a whopping 9.0 from our own Benjamin Blank, and going on to make great sales all the way through the year.

Unfortunately, Capcom’s MaXplosion Man has come under fire from Twisted Pixel’s CEO and co-founder, Michael Wilford, Tweeting:

‘Just sux bc we’re 2 small to do anythng about it, & I bet Capcom’s countng on that,’

‘I’ll always love Capcom bc of what they brought to my childhood, but WTF have they turned into? First they lose Inafune, now this #itsashame. Best part is, we originally pitched @Splosion_Man to Capcom and they said no.’

Yikes.

Less restrained, another Twisted Pixel programmer Mike Henry tore into Capcom on his own, non-representative Twitter feed;

‘MaXplosion gameplay video makes me sad. If you’re going to outright steal a game, you should at least understand what makes it fun.’

‘Never thought I’d see the day when the ‘exploding man’ genre was overcrowded. Borrowing is great. Hell, we do it all the time. But that game is a complete theft.’

Capcom has yet to respond to these allegations. Nevertheless, Twisted Pixel remains outwardly optimistic about the whole thing. Michael Wilford’s reaction captures the whole thing pretty perfectly;

‘Guess we’re just gonna have to make a better iPhone game than them. Shouldn’t be hard.’

Ba-dum tsh!
