Black Ops 2 on PC actually… Mass Effect 2?

News: A small number of Black Ops 2 PC players are reporting disc-read errors. According to those with the error, the game on their discs isn’t Black Ops 2 but – get a load of this – Mass Effect 2.

Chalk this one up as bizarre. Several reports have surfaced across the internet from players trying to install Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and discovering that the game on disc 2 isn’t Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 at all. It’s EA’s Mass Effect 2. Treyarch’s desire to haul Black Ops into sci-fi territory is well-documented, but this is taking things a bit too far chaps.

Said a miffed W6KD on the Call of Duty Community forum: ”It’s a COD BO2 disc face, but it’s been mastered with Disc 2 from Mass Effect 2.  So f***ing glad I stood in the freezing cold at midnight to get this on release day. FAIL.” Other posts have appeared up on Reddit and Steam and a video showcasing the issue is available on youtube (warning: sweary content).

Players experiencing trouble with copies of Black Ops 2 masquerading as Mass Effect 2 can download the game instead via Steam.

I do! Sometimes they’re marginally cheaper on Amazon and I’m not in a huge rush to play them, so I’ll install it, link it up to my steam profile, and promptly lose the disc forever. Haven’t bought any games in a meatspace store for years, though.
