The sequel to Bit. Trip Runner is coming in early 2012, according to developer Gaijin Games.

The Bit. Trip series’ tradition, if it can be said to have any, is one of disdain for the idea of tradition. Each game has rejected the mechanics of the last, retaining only its hero, Commander Video, and its 16-bit aesthetic. It is with some surprise, then, that we discover that Bit. Trip Runner is to have a sequel proper.
The game will be named Bit. Trip Presents: Runner 2, Future Legend of Rhythm Alien, a name worthy of indie moniker-kings Dejobaan (creators of AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! – A Reckless Disregard for Gravity). It is said to be “inspired by the Bit. Trip series originally released on Nintendo platforms”, and marks the series’ jump to the HD consoles: Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Runner 2 is to feature HD graphics, achievements, unlockable costumes, difficulty modes and checkpoints, as well a slew of new abilities for Commander Video and friends. Which sounds as good a summary as any of what’s expected from any home console release worth its gamerscore this generation.
Bit. Trip Presents: Runner 2, Future Legend of Rhythm Alien will be coming to Xbox Live Arcade and PSN in early 2012.
