BioWare polls fans, Mass Effect 4: prequel or sequel?

News: Executive Producer Casey Hudson is asking Mass Effect fans whether they’d prefer the fourth game to be a prequel or a sequel. Weigh in, then create a petition when your choice is deep-sixed.

Time was you’d get what you were given, but the development process has been democractised of late. There’s Double Fine reaching out to the community to vote for their next batch of prototypes, that Kickstarter thing and Casey Hudson who knows better than anyone what the baying of rankled fans sounds like. Not surprising then that the Executive Producer has turned to Twitter to gather suggestions on which direction the Mass Effect ship should set sail. This time, Hudson wants to know whether you’d prefer for Mass Effect 4 to be a prequel or a sequel.

“Parsing through your thoughts on the next #ME game. Would you be more interested in a game that takes place before the trilogy, or after?”

Personally I’d prefer for Hudson to step away from Twitter and have some faith in his own team. You wouldn’t catch Paul Thomas Anderson asking fans for input before writing a new screenplay. And for damn good reason.

Development of Mass Effect 4 is already underway. It’s being created in the Frostbite 2 engine, a first for the franchise and something BioWare’s artists are apparently enjoying greatly.
