Irrational have announced an e-book titled BioShock Infinite: Mind in Revolt, which will tell the tale of two of Columbia’s inhabitants before Booker DeWitt’s fateful arrival. Pre-ordering the game will also net you the Industrial Revolution bonus pack.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Industrial Revolution, a tie-in puzzle game for BioShock Infinite, would allow you to learn more about (and even influence) the themes, locations, and players of the big game. That’s not the only way the BioShock Infinite universe will be expanded, as Irrational have just announced an e-book that will chronicle the early history of Columbia through the eyes of two of its inhabitants.

Titled BioShock Infinite, Mind in Revolt, the prequel e-book will be made available for Amazon Kindle for the price of $2.99. If you pre-order the game via Amazon, they’ll even throw it in for free.

The e-book is penned by Irrational writer Joe Fielder, who mentions that it will offer “a better understanding of BioShock Infinite’s world, the struggle between its factions, and the motivations of key characters, like rebel leader Daisy Fitzroy (pictured above), without spoiling the mysteries of BioShock Infinite.”

Polygon spoke with Fielder and revealed that the e-book is actually a fictional document that exists in the world of Columbia. It’s described as a 40-page novella that consists of a series of journal entries made by Dr. Francis Pinchot. He’s been tasked with monitoring a captured Fitzroy a few years before the game’s opening. The novella thus becomes a clash of their respective ideologies.

“Pinchot’s research has a direct bearing into parts of the main game story. Part of the fun is the reveal, and readers piecing together the stories,” Fielder says.

Ken Levine may be wary of cramming plot information into cutscenes, but it looks like relegating it to a tie-in e-book is all fine and dandy. I’m assuming none of what Mind in Revolt brings to the table will be crucial to BioShock Infinite’s storyline, but merely an enhancement.

Pre-ordering BioShock Infinite will also grant you access to the Industrial Revolution bonus pack, which “grants exclusive access to three in-game gear items that boost combat abilities, 500 bonus in-game currency, five lock picks, and the Industrial Revolution puzzle game.” See all that accompanying a bit of new gameplay footage below.
