Edmund McMillen and Florian Himsl’s The Binding of Isaac is to receive “about 50% new content” in an expansion to be released later in the year.
It seems there’s more horrors to be found in Isaac’s twisted basement as Edmund McMillen has announced that the Zelda-inspired mini-roguelike, The Binding of Isaac, will be getting an expansion later this year.
McMillen teased the news just before the new year, with the reveal of a new series of items coming in the expansion. “Just got finished drawing up icons for a new item set in the isaac expansion they are called “trinkets” held items that give passive bonuses,” he stated on Twitter.
“There are 20 of them, they will be as common as pills and cards but easier to get out of the fortune teller machine, another new addition.”
Much more will be included too, as McMillen went on say trinkets (one of which you can see in the top left of the above image) and the fortune teller machine are just a couple of additions planned for the “mega expansion”.
“I have no release date for it, im working on it casually,” he said. “It will be 3 bucks and add about 50% new content, details on what as i make them.”
In its original form, The Binding of Isaac already offered countless hours of play time, especially if you wanted to see absolutely everything on offer. This and the sheer variety found in each playthrough were some of the reasons we enjoyed it so much, awarding it a 8.6 in our review.
We’ll certainly be keeping an eye on this.

Looking forward to this, Binding of Isaac was certainly one of the highlights of 2011 in my book. Not that I’ve managed to unlock all the original content yet.
