More Beatles DLC Looking Unlikely

For those of you out there who are anxiously awaiting the arrival of more DLC for The Beatles: Rock Band, I would advise you not to hold your breath.

John Drake of Harmonix was recently grilled on the issue, indicating that DLC is clearly something that would sell very well for this title if it was more available. He had the following to say:

Every time we do one song, it’s not like Rock Band where we wait for the masters to come in and just author them… its like, send people to Abbey Road, use the original tape, separate them out… it costs thousands of dollars. We’re waiting to see how things sell. We’re waiting to see how the albums do. If they sell well, we’ll have a lot more content

If this is based on how well Beatles albums sell, then we should be seeing more DLC for the game sometime in the near future.

  1. This is a poorly written article – the headline and body don’t communicate a consistent message.

“If this is based on how well Beatles albums sell, then we should be seeing more DLC for the game sometime in the near future.” But I’m not supposed to hold my breath? What?

  2. LT Sal – Agreed. Plus, Harmonix has already committed to at least three albums for DLC – Abbey Road (later this month), Sgt. Pepper and Rubber Soul, all by the end of the year. The author of this article needs to do a little homework.

  3. Plus, I’m pretty sure when Mr. Drake of Harmonix refers to album sales, that he means the Beatles Rock Band downloadable albums, not the CD sales, as this seems to indicate. This article needs rewritten.

PS: Happy Birthday, John Lennon: 10/09/40!

  4. Agree about the confusing, inconsistent, misleading headline and text. What’s become of journalism today?

  5. Clearly this article has been composed by a Guitar Hero fan who doesn’t want to see it’s more successful brother win this “war”.

  6. Thank you for the comments. I’m going to give a response as a lot of important issues have been raised here despite the brief and summarizing intent of the article.
I appreciate the confusing nature of the article and I agree it could do with some more editing. The view I was trying to convey was that Harmonix was expressing the desire to put DLC on hold for the time being until sales figures have been reviewed. What I was trying to say in the long run is ‘don’t expect DLC anytime soon, but based on sales figures I believe we will see it in the future.’ I agree that could have been worded better, but constructive criticism is the purpose of comments, and ‘flaming’ someone at the first opportunity when a subtle mistake is made is simply pompous and malicious.
If you have something to say, I welcome it, but please have some respect. Nonetheless I am grateful for people bringing inconsistencies to my attention.
Finally, to the last comment accusing me of being nothing but a ‘Guitar Hero fan,’ this is not based on anything concrete and is a lazy and poorly constructed attempt to belittle the writer. At least the first comments had SOME valuable things to say to me which may make me more vigilant about my writing. So, Sock, think about what you want to say about my work before you mindlessly drone on about a person you know nothing about, because if you must know, I prefer Rock Band to Guitar Hero, and enjoyed Beatles Rock Band. Not that it is any of your business.

Hope you are all well, and thank you for your comments once again.

  7. I appologise if the comment offended you. The article just sounded like someone who was relishing in the misinformation provided in the article. The only technical problem I have with this article is that the three albums were already announced for DLC and the article seems to lack optimism even after Abby Road’s release date. Peace and Love.
