Battlefield 3 multiplayer will “probably” get online pass

Battlefield 3 will follow EA’s lead and use online pass for mutiplayer.

Battlefield 3 player will “probably” need to register online using a one-use box code to play the game’s multiplayer. Suprisingly, this is an entirely different system to EA’s online pass system according to executive producer Patrick Bach.

“I don’t think it’s an online pass,” he added “I think it’s our own backend. I’m not sure I want to call our system an online pass.”

Bach then confirmed that players who purchase the game second hand will have to pay extra to use the game’s multiplayer, saying it’s “compensation” for server costs.

Battlefield 3 ships on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on October 28th.
