Bastion has surpassed the 500, 000 sales mark according to developer Supergiant Games, but these high figures will not cause them to rush into making Bastion 2 – or even make it at all.
Supergiant Games’ indie action-RPG Bastion has managed to sell over 500, 000 copies in its first sixth months, aided in some part by the Christmas sales, but this commercial success will not influence the developer into making a sequel.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Bastion’s writer and creative director Greg Kasavin said: “Our stance around what we want to do in the future hasn’t changed in light of Bastion’s success.
“We always intended for Bastion to be a stand-alone game though we did aim to create a rich world for it that could potentially support other stories. I don’t know if we’ll ever go back to the world of that game, though if we do it will be at a time when the team wants to do that more than anything else. It can’t just be a financially motivated decision because that’s not how Bastion was created in the first place.”
It makes a nice change from developers seemingly churning out sequels just to make a safe buck, but fans of Bastion may be hoping that Supergiant Games do find a reason to make a follow-up - BeefJack heaped praise upon the original in our review.

I can understand why people would like to see more Bastion; it was a great game and one of the best things about it was the way it gave you an excellent sense of place. Instead of giving you reams of background detail and setting description, it uses the personal stories of a handful of characters to indirectly show you the world. When you add to that the wonderfully evocative visuals, music and narration, you have something that provides a unique setting in an understated but powerful way. I felt a much stronger connection to Caelondia than I did to, for example, Ferelden (the Dragon Age world).
On the other hand, going back to something so self-contained and original would run the risk of breaking the spell I think. Better they produced something else as new and different as Bastion was, which from the sounds of it is what they plan to do.
