Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition will not launch on Steam
James Haresign July 6, 2012 - 4:07 pmNews: Trent Oster has confirmed that Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition won’t be seeing it on GOG or in boxes anytime soon either.
Trent Oster loves telling everyone what’s going on Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition on his twitter and now he’s dashing those hopes for anyone that had planned to buy it on Steam on GOG.com on launch. His tweet does make it sound like it’ll appear there eventually but on launch day it will only be available from Beamdog‘s website and the App Store.
No Steam or GOG? I know what you think that means and Trent has already addressed any worries about client software too. It won’t have one, it will have a launcher that can be used to check for updates (which he hopes will be frequent).
Don’t go holding your breath for any boxed copies either. Due to the number of companies involved in this special edition an agreement is stuck in “limbo” and those sort of situations apparently don’t resolve themselves quickly.
This bit of news may seem a bit of a downer, but remember the hints of all new content he’s previously dropped. Well except Gnomes, Trent hates gnomes (maybe). Overhaul Games really seem to be pulling out all the stops with their version of Baldur’s Gate.
Keep an eye on BeefJack for more on Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition.
