11 bit studios unveiled its new game that was veiled in secrecy. It’s Anomaly 2, the sequel to Anomaly: Warzone Earth.
11 bit studios created the strangest pre-order campaign I’ve ever seen. Before they announced the game or what the genre was, the developers offered a pre-order that gave buyers 50% off the $15 price tag. Some thought it was harmless, others were very skeptical. It even led to 11 bits’ PR representative making a video clarifying the off-beat deal. One thing was certain, however, today would be the day the studio revealed their game. And so, the secret is out, the game is revealed. It’s Anomaly 2, the sequel to Anomaly: Warzone Earth.
Set in 2018 (only five years away), the now machine-controlled Earth is dominated by mechanized aliens and mankind is close to extinction. Obviously, that means humankind is at war with the aliens and you’re the commander of a convoy titled Yukon. I don’t know how mankind is on the brink of extinction, low on basic necessities, and still has the means to have mechanized warfare, but I suppose war becomes the priority when the extinction of your species is based on another force.
Anomaly 2 is described as a tower-offense vs. tower-defense game. I’m not sure what that means. I’ve always been under the impression that someone had to be on offense in a tower defense game. Regardless, whether on offense or defense, your can transform your troops into mechanized war machines that probably deal greater damage to your opponent. There’s singleplayer and multiplayer and you can build your own squad that you can pit against the aliens or your friends.
Here’s the latest trailer. It doesn’t give a ton of more context, but it’s fun to watch.
The developer banked on its past track record to gain pre-orders and according to Matthew Lee, Anomaly: Warzone Earth wasn’t bad. So, if you managed to pre-order it, you might be okay after all.
