The CEO of the worlds largest third party publisher, Activision, has said the company may have to stop support Sony platforms.
“I’m getting concerned about Sony; the PlayStation 3 is losing a bit of momentum and they don’t make it easy for me to support the platform. It’s expensive to develop for the console, and the Wii and the Xbox are just selling better. Games generate a better return on invested capital on the Xbox than on the PlayStation…”
Said Bobby Kotick, Activision CEO. He also expressed a concern that no one revealed a price cut at E3, and that when the company looks at 2010 and 2011, they may have to stop supporting both the PlayStation 3 and Portable.
Sony’s response was thus:
“We respect our third parties’ opinions and their right to express those opinions but we will not be commenting on this story.”
It is fairly unrealistic that the situation will get to the point that Activision stops supporting Sony, the platforms do make a profit for them, no matter how small it is.
