A hero will rise – Project Phoenix rises from the ashes of City of Heroes

The demise of an MMO is always a sad thing. Each of these worlds contains in it a little spark of something unique from every player who walked through the world. The characters are a slice of distilled personality, what the player thinks looks cool, funny or interesting. When an MMO dies those characters die with it and NCsoft’s City of Heroes in that respect was one of the greatest, with one of the finest character creation tools we’ve seen yet, allowing players to live out their superhero dreams.
The subtly named Missing Worlds Media are not content to let that dream die and have announced an ambitious attempt to resurrect the game with Project Phoenix, promising to “Build the city. That’s it. That’s our mission. Giving back to the community what was taken from it”
The aim is to build a Superhero game from the ground up, that takes what was successful from past games and build on it with new technology. It’s a noble endeavor, if a tall order.
