4Chan working on their own Pokémon game with a Demo available

4Chan’s Pokémon sub-board /vp/ are working on their own version of the game, which so far looks surprisingly faithful.

4Chan working on their own Pokémon game with a Demo available 2When 4chan is mentioned, what usually comes to (my) mind is the infamous /b/ sub-forum, home of the depraved, the occasionally amusing, memes and birthplace of anonymous. So when I first heard via Reddit that part of the 4chan community were working on their own version of Pokémon, my expectation was that of some sort of self-referential satire of the series, perhaps including lots of rude words and Pokémon shaped like genitalia.

However, having examined the wiki and perused the latest demo it seems they’re more interested in producing a more traditional take on the game, albeit with content created and debated over by the community. The demo while featuring lots of placeholder text demonstrates a pretty close approximation to the Pokémon series’ battle system and world (created through RPGmaker).

My favourite idea so far is the non-traditional rival character Ricardo, who looks likely to be less of a friendly menace and more of a… dick. So much so that in fact his (yet to be agreed upon)  nicknames are “Doucherado” and “Dicks”

The Wiki also showcases the all-new fan designed Pokémon likely to be making an appearance in the game and the designs for the most part are pretty good, Monkezuma – a gold bedecked gorilla with a mace on his tale caught my eye in particular.

Obviously there is a legal minefield to be navigated here, but for now, what we’re seeing is a part of the 4chan community engaging their creative nodes and coming up with something that looks surprisingly promising.
