49% of console gamers don’t purchase DLC

While it is widely accepted that digital sales will become the default method of purchase, DLC has failed to reach roughly half the market share.

Research group EEDAR have discovered that 49% of console games haven’t purchased DLC in 2011 – a sharp decline from the 60% in 2010 and the 66% in 2009.

The EEDAR went on to survey 3500 of those who took the test as to their reasons for not making these purchases.

  • Privacy: 47 per cent
  • No return policy: 38 per cent
  • Too expensive: 32 per cent
  • Enough free DLC: 24 per cent
  • No demo: 24 per cent
  • No reviews: 21 per cent
  • None for interested games: 20 per cent
  • Not adequate description: 20 per cent
  • Not enough gameplay: 18 per cent
  • Only online multiplayer available: 18 per cent
  • Only single player available: 15 per cent
  • Process takes too long: 15 per cent
  • Complicated storefront: 15 per cent
  • Not released when wanted: 12 per cent
  • Not high enough quality: 11 per cent

DLC remains a controversial issue. Are gamers being sold games with purposefully withheld content? Or is DLC simply a way for publishers and developers to take back some of the money they are losing from resales?

We need opinions people, so keep sound off below!
