Max Payne 3 is the SpongeBob SquarePants movie (yes, really)
Joannes Truyens September 3, 2012 - 11:00 amFeature: It seems Rockstar took inspiration from a very unlikely source when they were designing MAX PAYNE 3. Read on to find out exactly what our morose bullet-and-metaphor-spewing hero has in common with a certain pineapple-under-the-sea-dwelling creature.

You know how you can have this totally original idea that’s awesome, and only later do you realise that you subconsciously copied it from somewhere else? I believe this happened with Max Payne 3 - its storyline is eerily similar to that of the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. Wait, come back! I’m being deadly serious.
Of course there are many differences between the two (Max Payne isn’t anywhere as absorbent), but the similarities are very striking. The storyline, characters, specific scenes and set pieces, subplots, resolutions – they all link up in some way, shape or form. You’re still not taking me seriously, are you?
For the full effect of the following side-by-side comparison, it helps if you’ve both played Max Payne 3 and watched the SpongeBob SquarePants movie. Also because there are spoilers for both. Anyways, let’s get on with it, and I’ll show you just how serious I am over the page.

Just thought of another one. Both Max and SpongeBob ultimately triumph because they embrace what they are. Max is a killer, but he’s putting his skills to good use (fighting injustice). SpongeBob realises he is just a kid, but also that he’s done some pretty impressive things.
I have no idea how you came up with this, but color me amused.
Its pretty much the classic heroes journey told through different lenses, most video game fiction involves the heroes journey because playing it out lets the gamer feel empowered.
Is there no part in Max Payne 3 where he rides a hairy German celebrity to safety? They should add that as a DLC mode if there isn’t.
