The Wii is the best selling system currently and it shows no signs of slowing down. It’s already common knowledge that everyone wants a Wii. Grandparents, small children, famous celebrities, everyone wants a piece of the Wii. With games like Wii sports and Mario Kart Wii, who wouldn’t want one? With all these “fun for everyone” games out and about, where does it leave all of us hardcore gamers?

Looks like Nintendo has finally decided to man up and become a real gamers’ gaming console. Nintendo, with SEGA, has decided to release a few more M (Mature) rated games and give the hardcore gamers what they want, blood guts, gore, and some humor on the side.

First up, to be released on Feb. 10th, we have House of the Dead: Overkill. Overkill completely neglects its ill predecessors and takes on a new story that is based on the B movie House of the Dead.

Overkill puts a comedic twist on traditional zombie horror games; mimicking the genre developed by movies like Army of Darkness and Grindhouse. Paying homage to these films, Overkill features gratuitous swearing, strippers, and effects similar to battered and beat-up film prints.

Next on the lineup, to be released on March 31st, we have Madworld. Madworld is a 3rd person action game where the player must master their environment and use everything from chainsaws to street signs to beat your opponent into a bloody heap. Madworld is all in black and white with a hint of red to takes after the unique art style of the cult classic Sin City to emphasize the brutality of the game. To keep us in the action, there is even a sports announcer recapping the carnage as you play.

Mad world has even earned a reputation for itself. The BBFC has voiced its opinion about Madworld, saying “We need to ensure that modern and civilized values take priority rather than killing and maiming people.” Games replied within hours to this statement with a quick and simple ”shut the f*** up.  Those who didn’t send an angry reply decided to let BBFC know that their statement drew their attention towards the game, and they will be sure to go out and buy it. Looks like BBFC’s plans backfired.

Looking back, M rated games do exist for the Wii. Let’s not forget No More Heros, and Manhunt 2. The Wii has supplied games to the hardcore audience, but it’s not enough. It’s about time Nintendo started getting its act together. We owe it all to you SEGA for your generous contribution to the Wii’s mature audience.

    I didn’t know Nintendo was stopping third-party publishers from putting M-rated content on the Wii before.

    You know, just ’cause a game is “family-friendly”, that doesn’t mean it’s not “hardcore”.

    Blood=/=hardcore.
