Resident Evil 5 On Wii Possible?
It seems the Wii may be getting a port of Resident Evil 5 after all, says Capcom.
The title has not been officially confirmed or even hinted at, but around the time of the games launch on other consoles earlier this year, Capcom stated that the game wouldn’t be possible on Wii due to the relatively low power of the system.
After the development of upcoming Wii rail shooter Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles however, it seems they may have been a little hasty in that assumption. Speaking in an online Q&A session, Capcom’s product manager Matt Dahlgren had this to say:
“At Resident Evil 5’s launch, it was announced that a Wii version was not technically possible. But after some of the work that Cavia has done (with RE: Darkside Chronicles), the producers of Resident Evil 5 over in Japan now think it is possible. Some of the light effects in the South America stage are pretty incredible. Whether it is going to come, I don’t know the answer to that question. But, it has been said that now at least it is possible.”
So the port is at least possible, but the question remains would any Wii players want it. Given the recent commercial failure of Dead Space: Extraction, mature games on the system have certainly taken a major hit, perhaps the Resident Evil name can change that.

Can definitely appreciate the skepticism of whether this would succeed given the recent lack of success of hardcore titles like Dead Space Extraction. On the other hand, Resident Evil 4 Wii and Umbrella Chronicles were both million plus sellers on the Wii. I think it could go either direction.
Due to Residant Evil 4 the new game is bond to be a massive hit.Go for it!
Dead Space Extraction isn’t a valid point in saying that mature games on the wii have a low success rate. Resident Evil is very popular on any port. I have yet to even play Resident Evil 5 due to the lack of having a PS3 or X360. I’ve played every single RE game except for RE5. Its quite a disappointment to me and I’d pay $200 just to own it on the wii.
personally i couldnt stand the umbrella chronicles past the familiar locations, but re4 is easily the best game i have played on the wii. it would be great if re5 is released on the wii, leaving me free to buy the (no doubt) new console that re6 will be released on. im not paying $600 so that i can play one game, your breaking my balls capcom.
