New Pokemon game is very un-Pokemon like
If you ask someone what they want in a Pokemon game, you can get any number of answers. Some people are happy, some people want a 2D fighter, and this is a step in the right direction.
GamerBytes reports that Nintendo has an oddball WiiWare title in their booth at PAX. Melee! Pokémon Scramble sounds like an breakfast dish, but it’s really a top-down fighting game. You can see the video for yourself here.
Coming to the U.S. as Pokemon Rumble, it looks something like a higher perspective Dynasty Warriors: Pokemon. You control one Pokemon at a time, and use their various well-known abilities, thundershock etc, to kill (faint?) other Pokemon.
It looks like there is even four player local cooperative play, against a giant Pokemon I don’t recognize. There have been various efforts to attach the Pokemon license to games before, the “Mystery Dungeon” games are dungeon crawlers, Pokemon Rescue has almost nothing to do with Pokemon. Pokemon Rumble looks no different, except it looks like it has potential to thrive off being a Pokemon game, instead of just having it stapled on.
