Most MMORPGs these days have some kind of free trial, even without buying the full game. At my local Gamestop they’ve always got this shelf of nothing but trial disks for various MMORPGs, World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy 11, and formerly Tabula Rasa.

Warhammer Online has, until recently, been the same as the rest. Now though, if you play the free trial you’ll be able to play for as long as you want! Well, as LONG as you want, but you’ll be stuck at level 10, and so you’re stuck in the first ‘tier’ of the game.

A nice little bit explaining the whole switch from Gamers Daily News:

“They [players] explore the tier one Empire vs. Chaos zones of Nordland and Norsca. In addition, players can explore the newly added tier one dungeon, Hunter’s Vale, or battle other players in the instanced scenarios Nordenwatch, Khaine’s Embrace and Gates of Ekrund.”

Apparently, the game client is streaming as well, so the base install of the game is only 1gb, and everything else gets downloaded as you play. I’d expect that you’ll have a hard time playing on your dial-up (or Frame Relay, UGH) connection.

Give the game a go here, see if you like it or not. I’ve never been one for MMORPGs, except for those three years I was stuck on World of Warcraft, but I’m clean now!
