Trouble Down Under for Krome
Australian based Krome Studios has joined the growing list of game companies forced to make staff cuts, announcing that it plans to lay off employees in the coming months.
While exact numbers have not yet been announced, any amount of staff reduction is always tough.
Krome’s CEO Robert Walsh has blamed the layoffs on the continuing economic problems faced by the game industry.
This is certainly evidenced by October’s NPD numbers, which saw the sales down nearly $210 million from the month before.
Krome is Australia’s largest game studio and has been known best in recent years for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, the best selling Star Wars game of all time. Other titles from the company include The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night and Viva Piñata: Part Animals.
Sadly, staff paring has become an ever present story as of late. EA made headlines earlier this month after it announced cuts of its own and fellow Australian developer Transmission Games also enacted layoffs last month.
A genuine good luck goes out to those who have lost their jobs, and here’s hoping you get back to doing what you do best soon.
