The current top selling Xbox Live Arcade game is Trials HD. Continuing to be a top seller despite launching back in Summer, the game certainly has an increasing community behind it.

The game’s developers, Redlynx, have spoken about the version of the game released on the PC roughly 18 months ago and how they have attempted to combat the problem of piracy. In short, they released a version of the game to the torrent sites but emitted the leaderboards from the game. It might not sound like a huge loss but the point of Trials is to shave seconds off your time and then compare yourself to the world, something very difficult to do without the leaderboards.

RedLynx CEO put that in her own words:

“That game relies really heavily on the server side – the leaderboards are the soul of the game. I don’t know if it’s helped, I’d assume so because even though the version that we put on the torrent networks wasn’t the full version, it’s the version of the game without the actual soul, without the leaderboards to play against other players.”

The torrenters have yet to crack the leaderboards and RedLynx are happy and so are we. If you like a game, trial or buy it. Simple.
