Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Wins WGA Award

As part of their boycott of major award ceremonies like the Golden Globes, the Writers Guild of America started their own award ceremony two years ago. The WGA, recognizing the increasing number of writers leaving Hollywood for the video game industry, choose to include an award for excellent writing in video games in addition to the more traditional categories.
The first recipient of the award was Dead Head Fred. The game received poor reviews, and as a result, WGA’s first selection was subjected to a fair share of criticism. The outcry may have prompted the guild to select a more mainstream game for this year’s awards.
2009’s nominees for the award included: Tomb Raider: Underworld, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, Fallout 3, Dangerous High School Girls in Danger!, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. As you know from the title, Lucas Arts’ latest endeavor brought home the crown.
This year was not without its controversy as well as many gamers have bemoaned the absence of Metal Gear Solid 4 from the list. The game was considered a likely candidate since it was the consensus favorite in the industry last year.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is set in the time between Episodes III and IV providing back story for the eradication of the Jedi.

Even though the game itself was just OK, the story in Force Unleashed was really awesome, especially for Star Wars fans like myself. I’m glad it was recognized!
Now hopefully we will get Force Unleased 2 with improved gameplay and a MUCH longer campaign.
