Rumor: No “Go” For Square
Take this report with a grain of salt. There is a rumor floating around that the newest PSP exclusive Kingdom Hearts installment, Birth by Sleep, will not be available for download on PSN, thus making the game unplayable on the PSP Go.
I’m going to say right now that I would be shocked if this turned out to be true for a number of reasons.
First, when you are producing what is widely considered a AAA title, you are going to want as many people as possible to have access to it. While the base of PSP Go users may not match that for the original PSP, you’re still restricting a good amount of possible customers.
Second, it would seem odd that Sony would not lobby harder to prevent such a move, considering how gungho they’ve been regarding their support fo the Go.
The word is that the download restriction is not Sony’s, but Disney Interactive’s; either way I’m skeptical. And even if this does turn to be the case, I imagine Sony would have to roll out some sort of digital conversion method for the game.
The whole thing seems bizarre, but we’ll keep you posted.
