Is Sony Already Working On The PSP 2 ?
I know what you guys are thinking PSP 2 already after the PSP-3000 was released to a mostly un-willing PSP crowd. Then came the news from PSP gamer community that Sony appeared to have dropped the ball with the new PSP-3000. I was one of thous people who jumped on the PSP-3000 band wagon only to find out the interlacing imagine issue and 20% less battery life made me trade it back in. Instead I pre-ordered a bunch of PSP titles like Resistance: Retribution, Prinny, Dungeon Maker 2: Hidden Wars and the rest I saved. Because I knew that I would hear about Sony working on the PSP 2 someday soon.
** Only Concept Image–Not Confirmed–**

So far there has not been too much information other then the above image. The EETimes article talks about a joint venture with Imagination Technologies Group to produce a chip set for the second generation called the PSP 2. The chipset would be similar (in the same family as POWERVR SGX graphics processor) But TVG says right now it is nothing but rumors. Even the fact that apparently the PSP 2 is in the final stages of R+D has also not been confirmed or denied by Sony.
Currently, Imagination Technologies‘ SGX range of graphics chipsets can be found in electronic products such as palmtops and ultra-mobile PCs. The graphics chipset has been called by some the most powerful on the market.
So after brain storming I came up with a few ideas that I feel the new PSP 2 should have:
- Same trim design of the current Slim(PSP-2000)
- Come In Piano Black & Resistance Limited Edition Army Camo-Green
- Build in TV tuner
- Fm Radio
- Longer Battery life
- build in hard-drive
- Second Analog (Nub)
- 3G
- Better Speakers
- Standard headphone port
- Battery light that turns Red instead of flashing Green
- Includes a built-in microphone (perfect for online play and Skype calls)
- Improved screen (That allows for better performance in natural light conditions, maybe even auto adjust for sun light and flare ups)
- Come in a bunch of different bundles. (Can you say Resistance: Retribution Limited Edition Bundle, Prinny Bundle and maybe even Metal Gear Solid Bundle)
The PSP 2 should also cost the same as the current PSP-2000, PSP-3000 which will then be reduced in price by 20-60 or so Euros/dollars.

Maybe Sony might be finally letting the cat out of the basket–think PSP phone, a rival to Apple Iphone. Take note that it would be using thesame chipset (same family as POWERVR SGX graphics processor)used in the Iphone. And maybe this might be the push Apple need to put video recording capabilty to the Iphone–a more reason for me to buy either of the two to come out with this in their release.
Cant wait. I lyk apple bt nt th i phome. Psp fon would b a dream come true.
Dear Danlord,
Not a big fan of the i-phone….but I hear ya on the PSP 2 possibilities and the fact there is a lot Sony could do with that type of chipset.
Thanks for the comment,

Dear Daniel,
I agree 100% it would make my PSP dreams come true other then I would want a second analog stick. (nub)

Would be nice to put phone functionality in it
Interesting but it would be very costly to include a tuner, 3g and a hard drive (which drains a lot of power) for the same price. Radio is a useless feature imho.
The funny thing is I remember when the PSP was first announced, it was supposed to be a phone.
This won’t come out for several years still… Also, this article was very poorly written in my opinion.
Dear WEEE,
Not a big fan of the PSP phone idea…I’d like for them to stick to gaming and the internet…
Thanks for the comment,
Remy
Dear Sam,
Yeah I hear ya it would be a major drain on the already short battery power. Just an idea thou I already have an FM tuner for my PSP-2000 and it is great and does not really drain the battery much. But 3g or a TV tuner would for sure.
Thanks for the comment,

Dear Rik,
I also remember seeing images of the PSP-1000 before it came out looking like i-phone..but never was a big fan of the idea…it reminded me of the old N-Gage..which was a total mess..

Dear Mark,
