Sony Continues Its Assault on Xbox 360

During the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this week, Sony has marketed the PS3 as the better value for gamers everywhere. Focusing initially on hardware, Sony pointed out that the standard PS3 comes equipped a Blu-ray drive for HD movies, Wi-Fi, an 80 GB hard drive, the 10 year future-proof system, and free online gaming.
On Wednesday, Sony decided to take it a step further by offering concrete examples of what a gamer could buy with 50 extra dollars in their pocket (the retail price of a year of X-box Live).
Here are two possible combination’s:
- PAIN ($9.99)
- Elefunk ($4.99)
- Guitar Hero Classic Rock Track ($6.25)
- LittleBigPlanetTM Metal Gear Solid® – Level Kit ($5.99)
- Episode of Afro Samurai | Season 1 ($1.99)
- The Dark Knight Movie ($14.99)
- Samurai Sword Rack, Diesel Tiamallo Blue Hooded Top, Ligne Roset Alster Chair for PlayStation Home ($4.47)
-or-
- Super Street Fighter® II Turbo HD Remix ($14.99)
- BurnoutTM Paradise (Full Retail Game) ($19.99)
- The Hoff Character for PAIN ($1.99)
- LittleBigPlanetTM Ryu of Street Fighter® II ($1.99)
- Robot Trooper and Basketball Boots for PlayStation Home ($.98)
- Savage Moon ($9.99)
Even if these particular items do not entice you, Sony has made a good point. If you consider online-gaming an essential part of your video game experience, 3 years of X-Box Live would cost you $150 (the current price difference between the two consoles).
Consider that information alongside Sony’s hardware advantage and the $400 price tag on the PS3 starts to look more competitive.

Puts on Fanboy hat
Its a shame that the money “saved” through not having to pay for Xbox Live is lost instead on having to spend more for inferior versions of games that are also available on the Xbox 360.
I also dont get why it is such a big deal to have to pay a relativelty small subscription in order to play all Xbox 360 games with multiplayer aside from MMO’s when many people spend more just to play one MMO game like warcraft or Eve online.
