HOME Beta Available To All PSN Users…TOMORROW!
Earlier today, Sony Computer Entertainment announced that Playstation Home Open Beta will be available to all PSN users…tomorrow! Home will be available to download by anyone that owns a PS3 with a PSN account, completely free of charge. As well as the free basic service, users can buy new designer clothes for go with their uniquely created avatar so they can look the part when exploring the virtual community of Home.
Home will also give users their own apartments which, like the clothing, can be redesigned with furniture users can buy so you can decorate your own ‘pad’ for when you want your friends over when arranging for that gamers night. Users will also be offered the ability to create their own communities within Home, whether it be common interests such as films or music or if you if clans simply want to arrange their matches together.
“PlayStation Home is truly a promising network community service on the PlayStation platform, made possible with the powerful combination of PS3’s overwhelming computational power and PlayStation Network that covers many countries around the globe,” said Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO, SCE. “We are committed to providing PS3 users with exciting gaming experiences with PlayStation Home and together with our partners and users, expand the new world of interactive entertainment as we move forward.”
Alongside the Sony created community, third party developers will also have their own places in Home, offering users to join the room of their favourite games and discuss strategies, secrets or simply their love of the game. Games include Far Cry 2, Warhawk and Uncharted.
“We are very excited to be bringing PlayStation Home to Europe and the PAL territories, offering users an interactive, social, gaming experience,” said Daniel Hill, Home Service Manager, SCEE. “PlayStation Home is unique to anything else in the gaming world and by partnering with both global and regional gaming and non-gaming brands, we are able to offer exciting and entertaining content that will enhance the PlayStation experience.”
So Home is finally upon us. I for one am excited. Despite gaming forums being in an uproar about Home being a waste of time, I truly believe that Home is the answer the PSN is looking for. Home will bring everyone together, make joining a friends game an easy task and meeting new friends so much easier. See you all in Home.
