Oh, you read that headline right, my friend.  Hello Kitty Online, the MMORPG based on everyone’s favorite thing to put on crap you buy for your Japanese daughter, isn’t even open to the public, and it’s already won an award.  HKO (that’s what the cool kids are calling it) won a Best Digital Entertainment Award for Best Graphics at the 2008 Hong Kong ICT Awards.  In short, people think Hello Kitty is pretty.

HKO is currently in beta, but it will be open to the public from February 14th through the 17th.  The free-to-play MMORPG has all the genre staples you’d want, including customizable avatars, guilds, farming, player housing, and crafting.  However, I’m not sure if you’ll be able to p0wn other kitties in some bloody PvP action.

And I probably won’t find out, either.  I’m not shunning Hello Kitty Online because of some lame gender insecurity, but simply because I’m unbelievably frightened by any creature that has no mouth.
