Marvel MMO Scheduled for 2012
Okay, so for those of you who didn’t quite get your superhero fix from City of Heroes/City of Villains,1up.com is reporting that Simon Phillips, Marvel’s president of worldwide consumer productions, announced the game will be released around 2012.
“It sounds like a long way away, but it’s not,” Philip told MTV Multiplayer. “We’ve got to create, together with [game publisher] Gazillion, that environment that is going to be a totally immersive experience and a perpetual storytelling experience as well.” Philips also explained that they’re still deciding on which characters will make appearances, and what the overall setting will be. “We’re looking at lots of different scenarios…We’re still working on the different variations that are potentially possible.”
“Every day, every week, and every month, there is a new element of technology that comes about,” Phillips said. “So whatever plans we had for an MMO two years ago have now evolved to embrace that new technology.”
Marvel also has plans to release an easier MMO in 2010, called “Super Hero Squad”, and will be aimed toward younger gamers. Although the release date may seem far away, it seems like Marvel is doing their best to make a solid MMO that will be able to stand up to the likes of WoW. The game is being released around the same time as The Avengers movie is expected to be released.
