It’s a well documented fact that the Japanese love special edition consoles; from Pokemon to Final Fantasy, if it can be emblazoned on hardware, it has been.

So it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise then that Sony will be releasing a Japan only PSP to coincide with the release of the newest Kingdom Hearts installment, Birth by Sleep.

Set to retail at ¥22,000 (roughly $245) the PSP will be sold as a bundle with the game and will feature fun Kingdom Hearts patterns.  If I’m coming off a bit sarcastic, it’s intended.

Look, I obviously enjoy games quite a bit, but I’ve very rarely seen “Special Edition” anything that warrants the price bump that often comes along for the ride.  Just give me something that plays games, maybe in black, and I’m good to go.

No word on a US release, but don’t hold your breath.
