EA Releases DRM Reversal Tool

Electronic Arts has released a DRM reversal tool to sate complaints about the heavy handed anti-piracy policies that have been employed on their PC games to date. The tool has been dubbed the “De-authorization Management Tool” or DMT.
Games like Spore came under fire for it’s use of SecuRom DRM (digital rights managemant) which was highly unpopular with consumers. This wasn’t just the pirates speaking up, but customers found SecuRom to be too oppressive in the way it limited use of a purchased game.
EA has heard the outrage and has opted not to use SecuRom for new releases like The Sims 3.
The reversal tool doesn’t allow a user to have additional installs of a game, but it does allow a user to reset the current associations the program has so that they can move it to other computers that they own.
This is nice as most EA games only allow five installs period. The tool currently works with Burnout Paradise, Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3, Crysis: Warhead, Mass Effect, and last, but certainly not least Spore.
