grid 1024x576 UK Politician Praises Fable 2, GRID and LittleBig Planet

It’s not often that a politician sings the praises of the video game industry, which is why a big deal should be made of it when it does happen.

Edward Vaizey, a Conservative MP, has requested the motion that the UK government recognise the importance of the UK Video Game Industry and in particular those games created by UK developers.

The MP, a known supporter of video games, has stated that BAFTA Award winners Fable 2, GRID and LittleBig Planet should receive special praise for picking up their awards.

However, Vaizey was not done there; he continued to blast the current Labour government for a “complete lack of support” for the industry and that he ” regrets the fact that this lack of support from Government has seen the UK fall from being the third largest producer of video games in the world to the fifth largest”. His solution to the problem is to “devise a clear and supportive strategy for the UK video games sector as part of the Digital Britain review”. Quite straight forward then.

It is always a positive step to see a politician who does not take the easy “video-games-are-to-be-blamed-for-all-evil” route that quite a few have. It may be worth keeping an eye on Edward Vaizey, as his campaign for video game justice may be an illuminating aspect of political life through this global recession.
