It’s that time of year again! Well, not really that time of year, but it IS that time again! It’s time for shady dealings! The accuser this time is “Computer Bild Spiele”, claiming that Ubisoft wanted them to rate Assassin’s Creed 2 a “sehr gut”. If my German grandparents are any reminder, that means “very good”.

The accused is, obviously, Ubisoft. This isn’t the first time that Ubisoft has been accused of something along these lines, and outlets have spoken out before. So unlike the Batman thing where the game turned out to be totally great, this business with Ubisoft could ring true.

Then again, it could just be a publication trying to get name recognition and stir up controversy. If you don’t look at things like this from both sides it gets easy to say “Well Ubisoft is nothing but corporate fatcats” or from the other side “Those silly Germans are just trying to get clicks and hits”. Either of them could be true, but this time I’m leaning in the magazine’s favor because of Ubisoft’s history.

All of this amounts to little though, it’s Ubisoft’s choice of who they want to give their review copies to, there isn’t a law that says they need to be impartial. Sure it hurts their reputation, and hurts an outlet’s reputability if you know their mouth is firmly planted in Ubisoft’s lap, but it’s their choice.

Also of note, I’m sure that I, not the reviewer for Assassin’s Creed 2, am going to love the shit out of this game.
